Vintage Meico Landhaus Look Red Suede Jacket

This is unmistakably Trachten — the Austrian and Bavarian country-house style that gave the "Landhaus Look" its name. Cut in soft red suede with a collarless V-neckline, curved princess seams and a cropped, fitted body, the silhouette is ladylike and tailored rather than oversized, following the shape trachten jackets held onto through the 80s and into the 90s. Antique brass heart-and-clover buttons close the front through black leather loops, and the same black leather traces the neckline, placket, cuffs and welt pockets in a clean contrast piping.

Below the chest, a hand-worked embroidery scene — a little cottage, fir trees, a fence — brings in the folk-costume detail that defines the genre, stitched directly into the suede rather than printed on. The suede itself is soft with a fine, even nap; brush it gently in one direction to keep the texture looking fresh, and store away from damp to avoid stiffening.
